We have recently joined forces with Brookhouse Gas Training: they secure the placements their trainees need to qualify as heating engineers, and we get an early opportunity to nurture talent and assess their suitability for joining us on a more permanent basis, among other benefits (see more about the collaboration here).
This is the second of our case studies about individual trainees (see the first one, about Michael Fisher here). In this case study we meet Lee Williams, who swapped cleaning windows for fixing boilers.
Lee had been working as a window cleaner for a while and decided that he needed something more challenging – and to spend less time working in the nasty weather conditions of winter. You could say he embarked on a new career ladder!
Lee answered the following questions:
A: “Although I’m still quite new, I enjoy the fault finding aspects of the role. I think that once I have gained the knowledge and experience of working on the job for longer, this is something I will get a lot out of, though I like all the other parts of the job as well.”
A: “Kallum, the engineer I am shadowing, is very helpful. He has good all-round knowledge and is very friendly. I appreciate all the help he has given me. The overall experience has been good. The nature of the job is challenging but I have learnt how preparation and planning, taking into account everything I’ve learnt, make things much easier.”
A: “I’d like to work with a company for a few years to really build my knowledge and experience and learn from other engineers. I may want to go out on my own one day but for now I’m happy working in a company like Plumbcare.com.”
Lee has been invited to interview for a position with Plumbcare.com once he is qualified.
