To keep your boiler running properly, you do need to get it serviced annually. It keeps everything working efficiently and can identify potential issues before they become a problem. However, this blog is not here to persuade you that annual servicing is the right thing to do (we’re taking that as a given). This article is all about why it makes sense to get your servicing done in the summer.
As far as your boiler is concerned, it doesn’t really matter when it’s serviced but for you, there are a number of convenient benefits to having it done in the warmer months when the heating is off:
Because you don’t have the heating on anyway, it doesn’t matter if the boiler is off for an hour while being serviced. Of course, even in the winter, most of us can cope with that – we wouldn’t necessarily have it on all day anyway due to the cost of heating the home in this way. However, if the boiler service identifies an issue that requires work or proposes some proactive upgrades or maintenance, these may take longer and lead to disruption of heating for a longer time and this is when it can start to become more difficult in colder periods.
The busiest time for heating engineers is always winter: autumn when the heating goes back on again (see how to avoid this here) and January/February time when the weather is coldest and the heating is most likely to breakdown. Things are generally calmer over the summer months so this is when you can cherry pick the date for your service. If you use a smaller company, your engineer is also much less likely to be called away to an emergency and have to cancel (though this is rarely likely with a larger company such as Plumbcare.com due to the number of engineers we have available). Obviously, if you need further work doing on the boiler, you’re unlikely to have to wait too long.
Your boiler comes under most pressure over the winter when it’s cold and we rely on it for heat and hot water. The best chance for helping it run efficiently and avoiding a breakdown is to get it done in the summer so it’s in peak condition when it’s needed later in the year. This not only saves you money on energy usage, it also helps avoid the expense and disruption of a winter breakdown.
A standard gas boiler service is usually £79 but we are currently offering 15% discount over the summer to celebrate 15 years in business, making it just £67.15 so why not get it booked in for the summer (offer ends 30/09/21) – especially if you’re still working from home.
