Coronavirus update: boiler servicing to resume

An update to our services 08/04/20

As always, we are dedicated to keeping our customers up to date with how we’re managing the coronavirus situation, any changes in the services that we’re offering and how we’re delivering them.

On 23 March we took the decision to focus entirely on emergency jobs and on 30 March we clarified the specific types of scenarios where we would attend and those that we wouldn’t. Included in these updates was that we were not undertaking boiler servicing.

This was so we could continue to provide emergency repairs while conducting our risk assessments and method statements as guidelines changed. It also allowed us to maintain availability while we naturally experienced a dip in our workforce due to those self-isolating.

We now feel that the time is right to resume boiler servicing. We always felt that while boiler servicing wasn’t urgent, it was always essential. Therefore, now that we have established our routines and many engineers have completed their appropriate periods of self-isolation, we are now taking bookings for boiler services.

The same guidelines apply to boiler services as all other services:

  • We will confirm at time of booking whether anyone is self-isolating due to experiencing symptoms. If so, we would not be able to attend
  • The engineer will also confirm this on their 30-minute pre-call
  • Social distancing must be observed by anyone in the property and the engineer must be given sufficient space to work
  • We ask that the boiler and surrounding area be cleaned prior to the engineer’s arrival
  • Customers will not be asked to sign our engineers’ PDAs on completion of the job. This will be done by the engineer
  • Our engineers will use gloves and hand sanitiser throughout. We also suggest that the area be cleaned post-visit

Why is boiler servicing considered to be essential?

An annual boiler service is an important factor in keeping boilers working well. It tests the boiler and is a good way of spotting potential issues early. It can also alert our engineers to any dangers such as carbon monoxide leaks, which could potentially be deadly (though we recommend that you have a CO monitor at home to alert you of this quickly).

If you don’t have any concerns about your boiler and you do delay the service due to these extraordinary times, it shouldn’t be an issue and most boiler manufacturers are being flexible with warranty conditions around servicing. However, if you would like your boiler to be serviced for peace of mind and you are OK with engineers coming into your home, then we are happy to be able to provide this service.
