As people get older it can become more difficult to get upstairs easily and while beds can usually be accommodated downstairs, washing and toilet facilities tend to be located on the first floor. It’s often the difficulty around access to wash facilities that can expedite the need to move from one’s own home into care or sheltered housing.
Most people would prefer to remain in their own home for as long as possible, and would be able to if this issue was resolved. A Pod could be that solution. A Pod is a ‘pop-up bathroom’ that can be installed in just about any room in your home. It means that you can transform a dining room or living room into a bedroom with a fully accessible en-suite bathroom.
Pods include everything you’d expect to see in an accessible bathroom including a toilet, sink, shower with seat and grab rails and they’re all on the same level.
Having this facility at home can allow an older person to remain independent for much longer. It can also be useful for anyone with a disability that makes it difficult to climb stairs.
Pods are discreetly incorporated into the room, offering full privacy and don’t require any structural work to the house (so they’re also quick to install, minimising disruption).
Another advantage to the ‘pop up’ nature of the Pods is that they can also be removed quite easily should they no longer be required so the room can be returned to its original purpose.
Our Plumbcare Pods are designed bespoke to the user and adapted to fit the space that you have. We have installed them on behalf of many local councils but we can also work directly for private customers as well where they’re not eligible for council funding.
